South Korea, official called the Republic of Korea, is an Asian country located on the Korean peninsula. South Korea shares its only land border with North Korea. Located in its west, across the Yellow Sea, is China and Japan is located on its eastern side. South Korea has around 52 million population spread in a land area of 100,210 square kilometers. Seoul, the capital city, is also known as a megacity due to its 10 million plus population and a very cosmopolitan lifestyle.
It is the world’s 13th largest economy and the third largest economy within Asia. It is symbolized as one of the four ‘Asian Tiger’ alongside Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong in term of economy. South Korea has heavily invested in innovation and technology, education and research sector and is thus aptly recognized as the Asian powerhouse in the fields of technology, education, tourism and business.
In the recent years, South Korea has been grooming itself as an abroad study destination for international students. Going by recent figures of 2015, there are more than 100,000 international students enrolled in various higher education institutes of South Korean. Lately South Korea has set a target to enroll 200,000 international students by 2020.
